June 2012 Shows DFW Existing Homes Sales up 11%
In another sign of an improving housing market in North Texas, sales of existing homes showed more gains in June.
Existing home sales were up 11 percent over June 2011 in the 29-county region that includes Denton and Collin County, according to the latest monthly report from Texas A&M University's Real Estate Center released today. In all, 7,796 sales were recorded by the multiple listing service compiled for the North Texas Real Estate Information System. For the first half of 2012, 35,965 homes were sold, a 14 percent increase.
The median sales price in June was $167,500, up 12 percent from a year ago. The report shows 6,473 sales pending, which is 12 percent more than a year ago.
Fewer houses are also on the market to choose from. The report said 29,447 homes were listed in the MLS in June, down 21 percent from June 2011.
Locally, CCAR Reports closed sales of homes priced $150,000 to $199,999 up 24%, while the homes priced $200,000 to $299,999 to be up 21.5%. Plano, Frisco, McKinney and The Colony all have less than 4 months of inventory which is a slight shift to a sellers market. This is the third consecutive month or reduced inventory in these areas.
